Subject: The NWA; is it like what they use to be? Sun Dec 27, 2009 3:15 am
Hey guys, now as you know, the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) has been around for over 60 years and continues to be a Worldwide Organization with different territories
But back in the Glory Days, the NWA has established alot of top names in the company
From the late Lou Thesz to Harley Race to Dusty Rhodes to even The Road Warriors, Tully Blanchard, Ole Anderson and The Enforcer Arn Anderson
The NWA has also put Pro Wrestling on the map and they have also helped out other Wrestling Companies
From the AWA to WWWF (now the WWE) to Jim Crockett Promotions to WCW to the ECW to ROH and of course TNA
The NWA World Heavyweight Championship and the NWA World Tag Team Championship have been considered the most prestigeous titles in all of Professional Wrestling and were defended in many organizations
The other NWA Belts like the United States Heavyweight Title and the World Television Title later became properties of WCW, but then WCW retired the TV Belt and the U.S. Heavyweight Championship is now the property of the WWE
The NWA continues to have wrestlers that many people have heard of:
Veterans like Bobby Eaton, The Steiner Brothers, Buff Bagwell, David Young, The Naturals, Awesome Kong and the top female in the Independent Scene known as MsChif (who currently carries the NWA World Women's Championship, the NWA Midwest Women's Championship and the SHIMMER Championship)
The NWA has once been known as a recognized organization, but now, it has been considered an Independent Organization.
and these days, it seems that the NWA is trying their hardest to reclaim the glory days, but many people feel that the NWA is not like what it use to be, especially since they don't have TV time, except on a Cable Network called Colours TV.
Last year, NWA Executive Director, Robert K. Trokich announced that the storied National Wrestling Alliance had ended their 5 year relationship with TNA Wrestling.
Trobich also stripped Christain Cage and Team 3-D of the NWA branded Championships.
and so, I ask you all this:
Is the NWA like what it use to be? will they ever get anymore TV time, and also, how can the NWA reclaim its Glory Days?
and plus, should the NWA get another TV Deal with another Cable Network?
That's the Question!
Please share your thoughts on all of this.
In the meantime, you can checkout the official NWA Website and its current champions on this link:
and listen to what the NWA Executive Director has said, and judge for yourself:
Well here's what someone has stated:
For the record, ROH was never associated with the NWA. The NWA was kind enought to let NWA World Heavyweight Chamion Adam Pearce appear wth and defend his belt at a few ROH shows last summer, but that is the extent of the association ROH has had with the NWA.
I thik that the NWA is back to what it used to be, except without the teeth. Right now, the NWA World Title and Tag Team Titles really don't mean much of anything.
and when asked how the NWA can reach their audience, here's what he stated:
I think the first thing that the NWA needs to do is consolidate. The original reason for the territories system was to prevent competition by a non-NWA body. Obviously, that failed. The NWA needs to get with the program, and merge itself into one territory. The combined revenues of all of the NWA territories should be enough to convince someone to give them TV time.
The NWA would, in order to keep the fans of each individual former territoy happy, have to take on a "WWE-light" travel schedule, going all over the continent, but not as many shows as WWE. One week do a show in an ECCW venue, the next week in an NWA Midwest venue, the next week in an NWA Anarchy, venue, the next week in Blue Demon Jr's NWA Mexico, etc. They would probably need to use an ROH like system for figuring out where to go and how often, hitting your biggest markest most frequently.
Obviously, it goes without saying that they would need to put on a quality project, and, at least emporarily, sign older stars just to draw people in, the way TNA did when they first got on TNA with Savage, Hall, and Nash.
someone else also stated:
I couldn't agree more...I have actually thought about this for a long time...I wish someone would take over the NWA and consolidate the territories and just run it like one, single promotion....they could try to find a nationally televised spot for their Wrestling Showcase on like a Saturday night or something and build on that and hopefully return to the glory they once were
and also, I say that they do need a Cable Deal, too such as TBS/TNT/WGN America or some other Cable Network
