Subject: The Defunct Titles @ Wrestlemania Sun Mar 07, 2010 10:53 pm
Hey guys, w/Wrestlemania only 3 weeks away, it's time that we take a look @ the 4 titles that are no longer in the WWE that have been defended @ Wrestlemania:
The WWE European Heavyweight Championship The WWE Hardcore Championship The WWE Light-Heavyweight Championship The WWE Cruiserweight Championship
The WWE European Heavyweight Championship
The WWE European Heavyweight Championship has been defended 5 times in a row @ Wrestlemania
From WMXIV-WMX8
@ Wrestlemania XIV, Triple H w/Chyna retained the WWE European Heavyweight Championship when he def. the late Owen Hart
@ Wrestlemania XV, Shane McMahon w/ Test def. X-Pac to retain the European Heavyweight Championship
Wrestlemania 2000 saw the 1st ever 2 Fall Triple Threat Match when Kurt Angle defended both the I-C and European Titles against Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho
In the 1st fall, Benoit pinned Jericho to win his 1st I-C Heavyweight Championship, but in the 2nd fall, Jericho pinned Benoit to win his 1st European Heavyweight Championship only to lose it the following night to the late Eddie Guerrero on RAW is WAR on USA and Kurt Angle didn't get pinned during both matches and only wakled away with the Olympic Gold
However, the following night on RAW IS WAR, Jericho would lose the belt to the late Eddie Guerrero and Jericho had the shortest European Title Reign in history
@ Wrestlemania X-7, the late Eddie Guerrero def. Test to win the WWE European Heavyweight Championship for a 2nd time
and @ Wrestlemania X8, Diamond Dallas Page would retain the European Gold against Christian
Later that same week on a taping of Thursday Night SD!, William Regal (who lost the I-C Gold to RVD that same night @ WM X8) would regain the WWE European Heavyweight Championship for a 3rd time against Diamond Dallas Page thanks to outside interference by Christian
It would also be the last time, the European Gold would be defended @ Wrestlemania
In the summer of 2002, the European Heavyweight Championship was retired when Rob Van Dam unified both the I-C and European Gold on RAW the night after Vengeance when he def. Jeff Hardy in a Ladder Match
The WWE Hardcore Championship
The WWE Hardcore Title has been defended 4 times in a row @ Wrestlemanias
From WMXV- WMX8
@ Wrestlemania XV, Hardcore Holly defeated Al Snow to be the new Hardcore Champion after the Road Dogg Jesse James (BG James) was stripped of the title due to an injury
@ Wrestlemania 2000, in a Hardcore Battle Royal, the WWE Hardcore Title changed hands 10 times:
But Hardcore Holly became the last man to win the Hardcore Gold for the 2nd year in a row @ Wrestlemania:
The others were Tazz, Viscera, Sho Funaki, Rodney, Joey Abs, Thrasher, Pete Gas, Tazz for a 2nd time and the late Crash Holly
@ Wrestlemania X-7, Kane def. Big Show and Raven in a Triple Threat Match to win the WWE Hardcore Championship
and @ Wrestlemania X8, the Hardcore Title was defended @ Wrestlemania, but it changed hands 5 times
Maven who faced Goldust got pinned by Spike Dudley, but then, The Hurricane Gregory Helms took the belt from Spike to capture the gold, then Mighty Molly took the belt from Hurricane after she slapped him in the head with a frying pan and then, Christian slammed the door on Molly to take the belt from Molly, but @ the end, Maven pinned Christian and recapture the belt and ran off in the Taxi Cab to get away from Christian
also, on that night, Gregory Helms made history becoming the only man to hold the Hardcore Championship in both WCW and the WWE
Molly Holly made history becoming the 1st woman to hold the Hardcore Championship
and it also marked Christian's 5th title in the WWE
and thankfully, the Hardcore Title is now retired when RVD unified the belt on RAW the night after Summerslam 2002 when he def. Tommy Dreamer in a Hardcore Match
The WWE Light-Heavyweight Championship
The WWE Light-Heavyweight Championship has only been defended once @ Wrestlemania
It happend @ Wrestlemania XIV in Boston, the same night when The Undertaker def. Kane and the night that Stone Cold Steve Austin won his 1st WWE Heavyweight Championship @ the age of 33 when he def. Shawn Michaels
But on that night, it was Taka Michinoku who won the title @ In Your House DX PPV def. Aguila to retain the WWE Light Heavyweight Championship
The title would not be defended @ Wrestlemania, but it was defended @ other PPV's as well as on RAW, SD! and Sunday Night Heat
However, in 2002, the Light-Heavyweight Championship would soon retire in favor of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship
The WWE Cruiserweight Championship
The WWE Cruiserweight Championship has only been defended twice in a row @ Wrestlemania and only 1 guy has competed for the Cruiserweight Gold
Rey Mysterio
@ Wrestlemania XIX, Rey Mysterio challenged Matt Hardy for the Belt in Seattle, WA, but thanks to the ropes, Matt hardy retained the Cruiserweight Championship
@ Wrestlemania XX, Mysterio was back in the CW Title Picture once again, this time, he competed in a Cruiserweight Open by order of Paul Heyman along w/Ultimo Dragon, Shannon Moore, Jamie Noble, Tajiri, Funaki, Nunzio, Akio, Billy Kidman and CW Champ Chavo Guerrero
Ultimo Dragon def Shannon Moore after an Asai DDT.. Jamie Noble def Ultimo Dragon.. Jamie Noble def Sho Funaki in a few seconds.. Jamie Noble beats Nunzio as a result of a COUNT OUT.. Billy Kidman def Jamie Noble.. Rey Mysterio def Billy Kidman.. Rey Mysterio def Tajiri.. Akio accidentally got spewed with Tajiri's mist, and was unable to participate Chavo Guerrero def Rey Mysterio with help from Chavo Sr and retain his Cruiserweight title
But sadly, in 2007, the Cruiserweight Title was retired when Vickie Guerrero stripped Hornswaggle of the Belt when he took it from Chavo @ The Great American Bash 2007
and that's your look @ the 4 Defunct Titles that were defended @ Wrestlemania:
