- The UFC has signed Dutch heavyweight up-and-comer Stephan Struve to a new four-fight deal. The announcement was made Tuesday by Struve’s management company.
Struve (20-4) has won four of his last five fights and has only lost to former IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson and the world-ranked Junior dos Santos since joining the UFC. A 6’11” kickboxer, the Dutchman is nicknamed “Skyscraper” and holds the distinction of being the tallest fighter in the UFC.
Struve is most recently coming off a “Knockout of the Night” performance against Christian Morecraft at UFC 117 in Oakland, Calif., in which the Dutchman disposed of Morecraft early in round two despite being dominated in the first frame. Struve also earned a “Submission of the Night” victory at UFC 104 in Los Angeles when he choked out Chase Gormley with a triangle choke in the first round.
The 22-year-old Struve holds 14 of his 20 career wins by submission and another four by knockout. “Skyscraper” is a member of Team Schrijber and splits his time training between Los Angeles and his native Holland. While in Los Angeles, he trains with fellow Alchemist Management fighters Vladimir Matyushenko and Antoni Hardonk.
Prior to joining the UFC, Struve won 16 of his first 18 professional fights. If he can pack on a little muscle, Struve can be a very dangerous guy with his frame. Nice to see him back for another 4 fights. | |
