The Preds have dealt Tomas Vokoun to the Panthers for a second round pick in this year (58th overall), a first round pick in 2008 and a conditional draft pick (which I believe one of the options is 2nd round pick). Vokoun went 27-12-4 with a 2.40 GAA last year for Nashville, recording his fourth consecutive 25-plus win season. Nashville was comfortable with this trade because they felt they had a better goalie in Chris Mason, and less expensive too.
What may be next? Well Toskala was dealt from the Toskala/Nabokov situation, Vokoun has been dealt from the Vokoun/Mason situation...so what do you think about the Fernandez/Backstrom situation?
And as for this trade, absolutely a great pic. Florida does have some young talent already in the organization and now they have an all-star calibre goalie with Alex Auld being a pretty solid young backup. Yeah they give up picks, but if they can succeed with Vokoun, their picks could end up being low and make this trade even better.
