Goldberg, the previous United States Heavyweight Champion, gave up the title after winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship from Hollywood Hulk Hogan

2 weeks later, Bret Hart and Diamond Dallas Page, the two top contenders for the U.S. Gold, competed to crown a new champion on Monday Nitro

But @ the end, it was Bret Hart who made DDP tapout w/the Sharpshooter and won his 1st WCW Championship-the U.S. Heavyweight Championship for the very 1st time

Bret Hart would go on to win the US Strap 4 times def. the likes of DDP, Lex Luger and Goldberg

10 years later, on the exact same day

Shelton Benjamin won the WWE U.S. Heavyweight Championship @ The 2008 Great American Bash when he def. Matt Hardy

11 years after the night Bret Hart won the U.S. Title, The Hitman is retired and is keeping himself active in other things
