1992; Ron Simmons and Bret Hart Make History

Hey guys, it's time to take you back to an event from 17 years ago:

Ron Simmons wins the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and Bret "The Hitman" Hart wins the WWE Heavyweight Championship

August 2, 1992
Ron Simmons makes history becoming the 1st African-American to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship

Ron Simmons has had success as an accomplished Tag Team Competitor winning the NWA/WCW World Tag Team Championship w/Butch Reed together they were called Doom, they defeated The Steiner Brothers becoming the 1st African-Americans to win the World Tag Team Titles in WCW.

However, Ron Simmons would capture success as a singles competitor.

Sting lost the WCW World Heavyweight Championship to Big Van Vader @ The Great American Bash in 1992, however, 3 weeks after losing the WCW World Heavyweight Championship to Vader, Sting was scheduled for a rematch at a live event in Baltimore.

However, due to an injury, Sting was unable to compete that night.

Instead, WCW President Bill Watts decided to hold a raffle to determine a new No. 1 Contender, with the winner earning Sting’s chance to face Vader that night.

Ron Simmons won the raffle, going on to defeat Vader that night to claim the gold.

With the victory, Simmons became the first African-American to win a World Heavyweight Championship.

Several WCW Wrestlers, including “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, rushed to the ring to help Simmons celebrate his groundbreaking accomplishment.

Bret "The Hitman" Hart wins the WWE Heavyweight Championship for the very 1st time in Canada

@ a non-televised live event in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Bret Hart challenged Ric Flair for the WWE Heavyweight Championship.

Encouraged by the Canadian crowd, Hart looked unstoppable.

The “Excellence of Execution” was running on all cylinders and wrestled a flawless match.

He eventually connected on a Superplex and followed it up with the Sharpshooter. Flair put up a valiant effort, but he had to succumb to the punishing submission move.

and now, 17 years later, Ron Simmons is still wrestling in the MCQ and other Indy Promotions and Bret "The Hitman" Hart is still staying active outside the Wrestling Business, but still make Guest Appearances

Ric Flair is now making appearances in the NWA, ROH and other promotions as well as managing his 2 sons and Vader is still wrestling in the Indies as well as in Japan and he's even training his son to wrestle

and as for Harley Race, he is still running his own Promotion Kansas City Wrestling and is also making appearance @ NWA Legends and NWA Fanfest
