Columbia Pictures has announced that their 3D live-action/CG animated "Smurfs" movie has started filming on March 26th. The announcement mentions that Anton Yelchin (Terminator Salvation) has joined the voice cast as Clumsy Smurf and Fred Armisen ("SNL") will voice Brainy Smurf.
Other cast members include Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf, Katy Perry as Smurfette, Alan Cumming as Gutsy Smurf and George Lopez as Grouchy Smurf. On the live-action side there is Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara and Hank Azaria. Quentin Tarantino has already denied being part of the movie.
Plot: When the evil wizard Gargamel (Azaria) chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours – in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.
Harris and Mays star as an expectant couple whose lives are turned upside down when the Smurfs cross over from their magical village to New York City. Vergara plays Odile, Harris's boss, a cosmetics executive.
