- Randy Couture vs. James Toney in the works for UFC 118 in Boston
Posted by: Corey Santiago The big "Boxing vs. MMA" debate looks like its finally going to become a reality. A bout between former UFC champion, Randy Couture and former boxing champion, James Toney is targeted for the UFC's first trip to Boston.
Fighter's Only Magazine was the first to report the possibility of the bout happening, and MMAJunkie.com has since confirmed the report is true although its far from official.
The weight limit of Couture vs. Toney is currently undetermined. Couture is now two fights into a second stint as a light heavyweight, while Toney is primarily regarded as a heavyweight in the boxing world.
Toney, 41, won a UFC contract in early March after a protracted trash-talk campaign against UFC president Dana White and several mixed martial arts fighters. Toney is currently training with Ibarra in Southern California as he prepares for his MMA debut.
Couture,46, destroyed fellow UFC Hall of Fame member Mark Coleman at UFC 109 via submission (rear naked choke) in the second round. The win shook off controversy that lingered after his prior appearance, a close decision victory over Brandon Vera at UFC 105 this past November, and put him on track for a shot at the 205-pound title.
When Toney signed, however, Couture expressed an immediate interest in welcoming the boxer to MMA. | |

| If I were going to do a boxing vs mma thing, I'd rather do it with 2 guys that aren't over 40 years old | |

| You're probably actuallly 50 years old That's why you need to defend their age | |

| I feel like I am 50, but I promise, I am ony 27. They say 40 is the new 30, so these guys are in their prime. | |

| If 40 is the new 30, then people are over the hill 10 years earlier | |

| I will always cheer for Couture, his fight with Tim Silvia is what got me into the UFC. I also think boxing sucks, so, even though these 2 are past their prime, I hope Randy ground and pounds boxing into the mat. | |

| I do too, but I really hope this fight won't determine the winner of "MMA vs boxing". | |

| Hopefully it is the first shot. They need to get a boxer and an MMA guy in their prime, but I don't see any boxer doing this in their prime. | |

| Well Anderson Silva talked about going into boxing after his MMA career finished. After his lackluster performances at MW, I don't know if I'm terribly excited to see it, but he's got some great reflexes and could cause some problems for his opponent. If he keeps doing stupid shit while fighting in the UFC, he might be gone soon and he can go pursue boxing before his decline | |
