Strikeforce to sign deal with NBC!

NBC and Strikeforce will soon announce a deal that will give the quickly growing mixed-martial-arts organization a weekly presence on major network television.

Sources close to the deal tell MMAjunkie.com that a formal announcement of the partnership is expected within the next week. However, Strikeforce executives didn't return phone calls from MMAjunkie.com requesting comment.

The NBC-Strikeforce deal comes just weeks after CBS and ProElite, Inc. announced a formal partnership that will put four annual EliteXC events on primetime television. The first EliteXC-CBS event is expected to air in May. And though it won't be a live event, Strikeforce could actually beat EliteXC to the airwaves.

Between this and the EliteXC-CBS deal it's an exciting time for MMA. They're both pretty minor league, so even with these deals I don't see them surpassing UFC anytime soon but to think that a sport which was virtually unknown six years ago is now all over TV is incredible.

What makes you say that?

There was a time when they thought boxing was going to be like football, and the time passed. Same with wresting, even though it's fake.

My guess, is it'll get 15 minutes of being the 'in' thing to be into, but it will then fade.


Heck, even at one time there were people that swore the XFL was going to be BIGGER than the NFL.

Oh you mean MMA. I thought you meant the Strikeforce deal.

MMA's already pretty high up there. Their PPV's have been doing higher numbers than anything else. With more TV coming on the way that's just going to expose people even more to MMA.
