Giguere leaves Ducks; LeNeveu recalled

Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere left the Ducks and returned to his hometown of Montreal for family reasons, head coach Randy Carlyle told the media following Wednesday’s practice at Anaheim Ice.

Giguere is not scheduled to return to the team until at least Saturday, meaning he will not be available for the Friday afternoon game versus Chicago at Honda Center. Jonas Hiller will start in net.

On Thursday, the Ducks recalled goaltender David LeNeveu from the Iowa Chops, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the Ducks have reassigned defenseman Brett Festerling to Iowa.

LeNeveu, 25 (5/23/83), posted a 6-6-0 record with a 2.85 goals-against average (GAA) and .887 save percentage (SV%) in 12 games with Iowa. The 6-1, 194-pound goaltender has appeared in 21 career NHL contests (all with the Phoenix Coyotes), going 5-9-2 with a 3.38 GAA and .888 SV%. Originally selected by Phoenix in the second round (46th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, LeNeveu recorded his first NHL win on Oct. 25, 2005 in a 5-4 overtime victory vs. St. Louis.
