Hey guys, this year marks 25 years of the birth of the Grandfather of all PPV's
Starrcade
Before WWE had Wrestlemania and long before TNA introduced Bound For Glory, Starrcade has featured some of the greatest wrestlers in the NWA, Jim Crockett Promotions and of course WCW
But the biggest prize of all was winning
The World Heavyweight Championship
No one has wrestled in more Main Events for the World Title than "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair
From 1983-1990 Ric Flair has competed in Main Events for the most Prestegious Title in all of Professional Wrestling
The NWA World Heavyweight Championship
In 1983, Ric Flair def. Harley Race in a Steel Cage to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship w/special guest referee Gene Kiniski
In 1984, Flair defeated "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes to retain the NWA World Title and win $1,000,000 when referee Joe Frazier stopped the match due to a cut on Rhodes' forehead
In 1985, in a rematch from 1984, Flair def. Rhodes again, when the referee reversed the decision, therefore, Flair still remained the NWA World Heavyweight Champion
In 1986, NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair and NWA United States Heavyweight Champion Nikita Koloff wrestled to a Double DQ w/both men still holding their respected championships
In 1987, Ric Flair w/James J. Dillon def. Ron Garvin to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship
In 1988, Ric Flair w/James J. Dillon def. "The Total Package" Lex Luger to retain the NWA World Heavyweight Championship
In 1990, STING def. Flair again this time, Flair was The Black Scorpion and STING retained the NWA World Heavyweight Championship
In 1991, with Ric Flair out of WCW and wrestling for rival company Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation, WCW had also withdrew from the NWA
In 1992, Masahiro Chono def. The Great Muta to retain the NWA World Heavyweight Championship
and on that same night, Ron Simmons The All American def. "Dr. Death" Steve Williams via DQ to retain the WCW World Heavyweight Championship
In 1993, Flair returned to WCW and he returned to Starrcade, and on that night, Flair def. Big Van Vader to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship
In 1994, Hulk Hogan def. The Butcher Ed Leslie via DQ to retain the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and that was the night many people considered as the worst Starrcade ever
In 1995, w/Hogan Suspended from WCW, Ric Flair was back in the Main Event @ Starrcade, only this time after he won a Triangle Match against Lex Luger and STING, Flair would then go on to def. The "Macho Man" Randy Savage to regain the WCW World Heavyweight Championship
In 1997, it was the most controversial finish in Starrcade History when Hollywood Hulk Hogan (Leader of the nWo) and STING (now in Black with White Facepaint) collided for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, Hogan won the match, but then, Bret Hart restarted the match, and STING won the belt, however, on the very 1st Thunder on TBS SuperStation, the World Title was declared vacant and STING would def. Hogan @ SuperBrawl VIII
In 1998, Kevin Nash w/the help of Scott Hall def. Goldberg to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship for the very 1st time
In 1999, Goldberg was back in the Main Event @ Starrcade, only this time, he challenged Bret Hart for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, but the match had once again, ended in controversy, but then the following night, Bret Hart vacated the title, but then won it back @ the end against Goldberg and it was the rebirth of the nWo
In 2000, it marked the very last Starrcade, and on that night
Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner def. Sid Vicious via Submission to retain the WCW World Heavyweight Championship
and that's your look @ the World Title Matches @ the Grandfather of all PPV's
Starrcade
