| 4/17 TNA RESULTS FROM ELMIRA, NY by Jim Bennett @ 2009-04-18 09:47:18
April 17, 2009 - TNA House Show Report Elmira, NY
1. Hernandez defeated Sheik Abdul Bashir with a sitdown powerbomb. Lots of stalling, not much else
2. Motor City Machine Guns + Eric Young defeated Team No Limit + Brutus Magnus when the Machine Guns hit the Made in Detroit finisher for the win. NOTE: Team No Limit member Naito appeared to injure his left knee legit very early in the match and was not tagged in for the duration of the match. He did come back in for a house clearing the end of the match but did not put much weight on his left leg at all. Interesting to see how this affects the PPV if at all.
3. Awesome Kong defeated Taylor Wilde with a double underhook face drop. Taylor got in a few nice dropkicks, but Kong rag dolled her
4. Abyss defeated Matt Morgan with the Black Hole Slam. Borash told us we didn't have to wait until Sunday to be treated to the "Battle of the Giants", so we got this match. Morgan pretty much dominated the action until Abyss threw him into a chair propped in between the ropes, then hit the Black Hole Slam for the win
5. Beer Money Inc defeated Lethal Consequences with the DWI. Lots of trash talking by Storm got the crowd all riled up. Funny spot where Storm fought with Earl Hebner resulted in Creed + Hebner switching spots and Hebner got the best of Storm, and then did a goofy Flair like strut. Lethal consequences were very over as the crowd hated Beer Money
6. AJ Styles defeated Booker T with a roll up. Booker tried to skip out on the match by saying the Elmira crowd was too fat for him to perform in front of, but as he left Foley came out and forced him back into the ring. Some decent back and forth until Styles hit a rollup out of nowhere for the win. The ending looked botched as it appeared Booker clearly kicked out, but the decision was final. This led to Booker challening Foley to restart or he was going to "kick his a**" This got the crowd riled up, but once Foley entered the ring, Booker left.
Foley then ended the show by thanking everyone and putting over the PPV
Overall, the show was about what I expected, definitely a fun time, but there was not much in the ring as you wouldn't want to get guys hurt 2 days before a PPV, though I'm pretty sure Naito did.
Attendance was roughly 1500 out of 4000 they could get for a wrestling show.

| It sucks that the Beer Money vs Team 3D is fueled by the "Off the Wagon Challenge" because a win for Beer Money over Team 3D would be HUGE and it would definitely put Beer Money in the position as the top tag team in wrestling today. It's amazing how James Storm & Robert Roode gelled together so well. It's like if you would've put Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels on a regular tag team. Okay, my comparison might be exaggerated a little bit but I think you understand where I'm going here. | |
