T-Mac Signs with Pistons

A source confirmed Tuesday morning that two-time NBA scoring champion Tracy McGrady will sign a one-year contract with the Detroit Pistons for $1.3 million.

McGrady played 30 games last season with Houston and New York, averaging 8.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

The oft-injured McGrady played just six games for Houston before sitting out a good portion of the season because of a dispute over playing time.

Houston traded him to New York in February, and McGrady scored in double figures 11 times in 24 games with the Knicks.

He led the NBA in scoring in the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons while playing for Orlando.

McGrady plays shooting guard and small forward, positions where the Pistons already have a logjam of players.

The Pistons are thought to be willing to trade shooting guard Richard Hamilton or small forward Tayshaun Prince -- both veteran starters -- which could free up some minutes for McGrady.

Well at least the money seems right and people weren't willing to throw gobs of money at him for no reason. Decent signing for $1.3 million, but he's nothing more than a role player now.

That won't make the Pistons any more contenders. If they're lucky, they'll barely make the playoffs next season.
