- Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that Edward "Umaga" Fatu passed away around 6PM EST in a Houston hospital. Apparently he suffered his second heart attack and didn't make it through. He was 36.

WWE has confirmed Fatu's passing on their website with the following:

WWE would like to express its deepest condolences to Mr. Fatu’s family, friends and fans on his tragic passing. Mr. Fatu was under contract with WWE at various time periods and most recently performed under the name "Umaga." Mr. Fatu's contract was terminated on June 11, 2009.

Condolences go out to the Fatu family and friends.

R.I.P. Eddie Fatu ..... i actually liked his matches as Umaga ..

I wonder if his heart attack was caused by roid abuse?

- Bill Apter of 1wrestling.com spoke with Afa Anoai moments ago. Anoai says that Eddie Fatu died of a heart attack.

Just shocking, Never would have picked him to die so young.

I'm in total disbelief about that piece of news. I never expected for Eddie Fatu to be the next one on this black list.

Just like his older brother, Eddie was somewhat agile for his size and that brought another dimension to his character. I was hoping that he would settle his problems and eventually return to the WWE but unfortunately, this wasn't meant to be.

I was shocked when I found out about this. I actually thought, more so, hoping it was a different "Umaga". It's just terrible, he has a wife and kids =/ RIP.

R.I.P. Umaga. When I heard this news I felt like I had to come back to CGS. I hope this doesn't have to do with drugs. If it does, then hopefully it stops other young wrestler's from getting involved with that stuff.

I too was hoping to see Umaga in the WWE again. He brought dimension to what could have been a lame, flat gimmick. His size, speed, agility, and power made Umaga unique. Most all of the death in wrestling, over the past 20 years, can be attributed to prolonged drug abuse. A better physic is not worth the loss of life. Hopefull this will stop and these guys will be able to see their kids grow up.

This is crazy, I couldn't quite believe it when I heard he had been rushed to hospital.. I mean, he was only 36. I was hoping that he pulled through, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. From what I've read, he was a really down to earth guy, so it really is a terrible loss. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
