Wizards say Arenas had firearms in his locker

WASHINGTON -- The Washington Wizards say Gilbert Arenas stored unloaded firearms in a locked container in his locker, and the NBA also is looking into the situation.

The Wizards say there was no ammunition in the container, and Arenas and the team have notified authorities and the league.

The NBA also released a statement Thursday night saying it is gathering details about what happened.

Arenas scored 18 points in Washington's 109-97 victory at Milwaukee on Wednesday night. The three-time All-Star is averaging 22.2 points after being limited to 15 games during the past two seasons following three operations on his left knee over 1 1/2 years.

Wizards spokesman Scott Hall wouldn't say when or where Arenas had the firearms in his locker.

Apparently he brought them into his locker to give them to the league because he felt he didn't them after his daughter was born. If that's indeed the case, I hope nothing more than a fine comes out of the unloaded firearms.

Why would he give them to the league and not the police? That doesn't make much sense. He could have took them to his local Police Station and then it would not have been a big deal.

Well he handed it to team security to have them give it to the police. Easier to give it to someone you're going to see at work anyways than making a special trip to the police station? *shrugs*

It was a silly choice, but I don't think it should be a big deal. Maybe a small fine because it is against the rules, but no suspension or anything. Plaxico Burress should have given away his gun, before he shot himself.
