De Vere To Play In 2009
WOW Brisbane Broncos' great Mick De Vere has been given the green light by NRL auditors and will play for the club in the 2009 season.
The NRL has agreed De Vere's earnings as a development officer at East Carina Leagues Club should not count in the salary cap, with his football earnings still to be part of the Broncos cap.
The decision caps a remarkable return to the Broncos ranks for De Vere, who left at the end of 2004 after winning three premierships.
He spent two years in England and two years retired, but the 32-year-old said he was up to it.
"It is my goal to play the whole NRL season," said De Vere, who is just one month older than Darren Lockyer.
"I just want to be a regular first grade in the NRL and be consistent, and enjoy my footy.
"That's half the battle - enjoying your footy."

Halle-freaking-lujah! Finally the Broncos have done something good by pushing this after they sold off half our good players last year. So glad to have a proper goal kicker again too! It's good to see they've let Mick come back, we needed something to go our way after losing Stagg, Hannant, Boyd, etc.
