According to a report published on the Denver Post web site Monday, Hall of Fame goalie Patrick Roy has been offered the head coaching job of the Colorado Avalanche and is considering the offer.

Contacted by the French language website SRC.ca, Roy denied the Post's report.

"I never received an offer ... but anyway, I'm not commenting," Roy told SRC.ca.

Both TSN's Darren Dreger and ESPN.com reported Roy has met with Avalanche President Pierre Lacroix, who traded for Roy while the team's general manager in 1995-96. Lacroix dismissed Colorado GM Francois Giguere on April 13 and said the team would unveil a new management structure.

"I went out there to visit him," Roy told ESPN.com. "He had his surgery about 10 days ago. I also had friends in town that I wanted to go and see.

"But we did talk a bit about my future," Roy added. "He wanted to know what was my future, but that's about it for now."

The Avalanche had no comment on the report, which said the information came from multiple sources.

Tony Granato remains under contract as the Colorado head coach and has two years remaining on his contract.

Roy, who led the Avalanche to Stanley Cup victories in 1996 and 2001, currently is the co-owner, general manager and coach of the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Post also reported that Craig Billington, the club's vice president of hockey operations and a former backup goalie to Roy, is a leading candidate to become general manager.

Colorado finished in the Western Conference cellar this season with a 32-45-5 record.

I think it`d be great if he really became the Avs` coach, this could help regain former glory.

I certainly don't have a problem with it. The team has problems and I think he might be able to fix them!!

Hey TRF, remember when we were talking about goalies who could keep up with Emery, maybe Roy can make a bad-tempered fighting machine out of Budaj

Bad-tempered, I don't know, but a fighting machine, that would be nice to see. And maybe Roy could make a great goalie out of him.
