Best Hip Hop Artist Round One : Dr Dre vs Kanye West

Kanye is the better actual rapper, no doubt. But I will vote Dre as the better Hip Hop Artist due to cultivating the likes of Eminem, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent, three of the biggest rappers in history. He's the second most important figure in rap history in my eyes. 2001 and The Chronic are great albums which set new standards for that era. He also doesn't make shit like Love Lockdown.

Dre is a far better rapper and producer. Dre gets my vote.

I'll take Kanye. With Dre helping Em, Snoop, and 50 off the ground, Kanye has done the same for John Legend (though not rap, but his grammy nominations and shit give you an indication of what he does), Lupe Fiasco, and signed to his label are the likes of Common, and all done in a much shorter amount of time.

In terms of music, I think I like a larger percentage of the stuff he comes out with (outside of his new album). He's not afraid to try different things, and not afraid of "saying the wrong thing".

Lupe, Common and John Legend don't compare to Eminem, 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg in terms of impact on rap. Seriously, only Lupe out that list is good and Eminem blows him out the water in my eyes. Fif and Snoopy are decent rappers so overall, Dre's contributions are much bigger and better.

Kanye is fucking sweet, Love Lockdown and Stronger are two of my favourite songs ever. So KanYe gets my vote

But not only are Kanye, Lupe, and John Legend fairly new, but Common alone is one of the most underrated artists. John Legend isn't really rap, but you compare his accomplishments outside of rap and he's climbing for sure. If Kanye can find and work with all these guys in like 5 years of mainstream exposure, imagine what he could do with like Dre's decades of exposure.
